Web design & development

Owner-run businesses

Madison, South Dakota

Demonstration design: a homepage for an invented electrical contractor, in deep green with a cream quote form and a row of plain-text trust marks.
Demonstration design: a homepage for an invented architecture studio, in warm putty with a vertical side menu and projects listed as an index.
Demonstration design: a homepage for an invented restaurant, in near-black with brass lettering over an atmospheric background.

Websites built around your business

Custom-designed, easy to find. Made for one business — yours.

The three layouts shown here are demonstration designs I drew for this page — they are not client work.

What I do

Four things, done properly

Everything below is included in a standard build. No upsells for things a website should simply have.

01

Design

A layout built around what your customers are actually trying to do — call you, find your hours, get a quote — instead of decoration for its own sake.

  • Brand & color direction
  • Typography
  • Layout system
  • Logo lockups

02

Build

Custom-written in clean HTML, CSS and JavaScript. No page builder, no plugin stack, nothing to break on an update — which is also why it loads fast and stays cheap to host.

  • Responsive down to 320px
  • Contact forms
  • Galleries & menus
  • Maps & booking links

03

Get found

Technical SEO done at build time rather than bolted on later: proper heading structure, metadata, structured data, sitemap, and a Google Business Profile that matches.

  • On-page SEO
  • Structured data
  • Local listings
  • Analytics setup

04

Launch & look after

Domain, hosting, SSL and email routing handled for you. After launch I stay reachable — text me a change and it usually goes live within a few working days.

  • Domain & DNS
  • Hosting setup
  • Content updates
  • Backups & monitoring

Process

You see the site before you pay for it

No deposit, no retainer, no commitment up front. I build the site first and you decide once it exists.

Step 01

A phone call

What the business does, who it needs to reach, and everything that has to be on the site — services, hours, photos, the number you want people to call. Half an hour, usually. It costs nothing and there is no pitch at the end of it.

Step 02

I build it

Then I go and make the site. Not a mockup or a template preview — the finished site, custom-written and working properly on every screen. You are not billed for this and you owe nothing while it happens.

Step 03

You see it

A video call where I walk you through the finished site, page by page. If it is not what you pictured, tell me. If you want it, that is when you buy it — and that is the first money that changes hands.

Step 04

Live

I handle the domain, hosting, SSL and search setup, and put the site online for you. You get the logins, a short walkthrough, and a number that reaches me afterward.

Pricing

One price, no tiers to pick from

$800 for the website, and you pay it only after you have seen the finished site and decided you want it. Hosting and the domain are billed at cost, with no markup from me.

The website

$800 one-off

One price for the whole build. No deposit, no installments, and nothing owed until the site is finished and you have seen it.

  • Custom-designed and custom-written
  • As many pages as the business needs
  • Contact form & click-to-call
  • Mobile-first, down to 320px
  • Domain, hosting & launch handled
  • Code, domain and accounts all yours
Start a project

Looking after it — optional

$50 / month

Entirely up to you. Turn it down and the site is still yours — nothing switches off and nothing expires.

  • Text me a change and it goes live
  • Content & photo updates
  • Backups & uptime monitoring
  • Security & broken-link checks
  • Priority on changes and questions
  • Cancel any month, no notice
Ask about the care plan

Online ordering, booking systems and multiple locations are bigger jobs, and they are priced separately. Call me and we will agree on a price before anything is built.

Included as standard

The things that should never be extras

Speed

Target: interactive in under one second on a mid-range phone over 4G. Custom-written code, compressed images, no third-party bloat.

Accessibility

WCAG AA contrast, real keyboard navigation, labeled form fields, and text that scales — so the site works for people using a screen reader, a keyboard, or enlarged text.

Mobile first

Designed at phone width first, because that is where most of your visitors already are. Tap targets sized properly, no pinch-zooming.

Search ready

Clean heading structure, unique page titles and descriptions, structured data, XML sitemap, and a robots file that does not block you.

You own everything

The domain, the hosting account, the files, the source code. No lock-in, no monthly ransom to keep your own site online.

Hosting handled

Set up on fast, secure hosting with SSL and automatic backups. Typically a few dollars a month, billed to you directly at cost.

Privacy sane by default

No tracking scripts you did not ask for, no cookie-banner theater, and a privacy notice that matches what the site actually does.

A person to call

Not a ticket queue. A phone number that reaches me, and changes that go live in days rather than being quoted as a new project.

Who you’re working with

One person, start to finish

I design and build websites for small, owner-run businesses in South Dakota — usually people who’ve been getting by on a Facebook page, or don’t have a site at all.

I do the whole thing myself — design, build, copy, the technical parts — so the person you email is the person doing the work. You get a fixed price before anything starts, and I’m still around after launch.

Questions

Answered before you ask

How long does a website take?

Usually two to three days from the first call to a finished site you can look at, and up to a week for a bigger job with more pages. The clock starts when I have your text and images — that is what most often causes a delay, so I will chase you for it.

What do you need from me?

Your logo if you have one, any photos worth using, your services and prices, and half an hour on the phone. If you do not have text written, I will draft it and you correct it — that is usually faster than staring at a blank page.

Can I update the site myself?

Yes. You have access to the files and to the site itself, so you can make changes yourself whenever you like. Most people would rather text me the change, which is included in the care plan and usually live within a few working days.

Do I need to pay monthly?

No. The site is $800 once, and that is the whole price. Hosting and the domain cost a few dollars a month and are billed to you directly by the provider, at cost. The $50 care plan is entirely optional, and you can cancel it whenever you like.

What happens if I want changes later?

Small changes are quick and either covered by your care plan or billed at a flat rate I quote before doing anything. Bigger additions get their own fixed price. You will never get an open-ended hourly bill from me.

Who owns the site when it is finished?

You do — completely. The domain is registered in your name, the hosting account is yours, and you get the full source code. If you ever want to work with someone else, you can hand it over and walk away.
